On 1 May 2005, the Government of the Sultanate of Oman concluded the unbundling of Ministry of Housing, Electricity and Water (“MHEW”). The sector restructuring has resulted in the creation of nine new entities comprising of one holding company, 4 Power generation companies, 3 distribution Companies, one transmission company and one power Purchase Company.
GPDC was established on 1st of May 2005 and under the transfer scheme assumed the ownership and responsibility of the power and water generation assets located at Ghubrah. These assets are financed by an interest free loan from EHC.

The mission remains to continue the business change process, particularly towards improving the safety culture, whilst simultaneously maintaining and enhancing the reliability, profile and operational security of the company.
